My name is Julia Garcia. I am a third year student at Colorado State University studying Sociology with a concentration in Criminal Justice.

I am fiercely passionate about advocating for criminal justice reform in the United States. I hope that my blog brings awareness to individual stories of those effected by the criminal justice system, unfair racial disparities, issues of mass criminalization, and alternative methods to incarceration.

The Pillory Project was created to offer an open and honest dialogue of the United States criminal justice system. Throughout reliable research and evidence, The Pillory Project exposes the many shortcomings of our criminal justice system while advocating for alternatives in this process. While the United States criminal justice system may bring utter tragedy, it also has the potential to manifest immense beauty. The Pillory Project also provides a selection of prison artwork to offer a depiction of the beauty and talent that is seemingly lost to mass incarceration. In critical analysis of the past and present state of the American criminal justice system, The Pillory Project addresses alternative solutions to incarceration while exposing the detrimental effects of criminalization within our society.
